Silver Screen at the Studio

We have been busy this summer at Rebecca's Studio. We began the season with a brand new logo and a new look for our store. On July 1st we held an event, Art in the Alley, an evening of light refreshments and browsing for our patrons and friends. A $100 gift certificate was given away that evening; congratulations to Karen Downing of Traverse City.

We will be holding a similar event Saturday, July 31 during the Traverse City Film Festival from 4-9 pm. Another $100 gift certificate drawing will be held. Bring your friends and browse our gallery while enjoying some local refreshments.

Shop Rebecca's Studio and Adornment Gallery for unique gifts your valentine will cherish for years to come. Select a handmade necklace, bracelet or a pair of earrings. Does she like to make her own jewelry? We have beautiful lampwork beads made right here in our studio. Maybe she'd like to try lampworking herself; give here a gift certificate for a class.

We also have other gifts to adorn your valentine. How about a purse or a scarf? Maybe she would like some art for her home.

Don't forget that valentine card to tell her how much you love her! We have several styles available, all unique and created by one of our artists.

Sisters of Adornment Gift Sale at MCHC

Holiday Events

Come and join the artists of Rebecca's Studio for our holiday events. Two of the events are this coming Friday and Saturday, December 4th and 5th.

On December 4th, Munson Medical Center will be hosting an art sale featuring our work. The hours of the sale are 7 am until 4 pm, and it will be held in the dining room near the cafeteria. Munson employees will be able to use payroll deduction to purchase items. The public is also invited to attend.

On Saturday, December 5th from 5-9pm, Traverse City's Warehouse District will be hosting it's 3rd Annual Progressive Holiday Open House. Twelve merchants will be sponsoring in-store giveaways, refreshments, music and more. The artists of Rebecca's Studio will be demonstrating their work. At the end of the evening, prizes and gift certificates will be given away at InsideOut Gallery.

I saw some snow flakes today as I was coming back from teaching school. Now at the studio we are starting to think about holiday gifts. Our Adornment Gallery is a good place to buy local handmade art. Or if you prefer we can teach classes in Glass or Silver in the Studio in the back.

Feeling Girly?

Come and get "girly" with glass bead artist Stephanie Sersich. Stephanie's 2-day "Girly Girl" Master Class will be held at Rebecca's Studio on October 2 & 3rd, 2009. In this two-day workshop, we'll make large and small glass beads and buttons for earrings, pendants and a bracelet and also create several simple pieces of jewelry featuring your handmade components. The emphasis will be on making jewelry that's cute and fun. We'll be using hearts and flowers for motifs and combining colors like pink, red and purple...and of course, anything else your heart desires. Each student will complete at least two pairs of drop earrings, a wire-work pendant and a simple feminine bracelet. Come and be girly!

Class cost: $300.00 plus $25.00 material fee.

Stephanie will also be teaching an Intermediate Lampwork Glass Master Class on October 4 & 5th, 2009. Join Stephanie as she shows you how to produce the beads you’ve always imagined for your jewelry designs. In the workshop, students will learn how to make necklace components, some not formed on a mandrel at all. Participants will explore off-mandrel techniques to make pendants, buttons and beyond. Stephanie uses a variety of shapes, such as hearts, pods, and starfish to create the matrix (core bead) of her designs. Emphasis will be placed on learning an array of decorative techniques in hopes each student can utilize them to create something truly their own. This will be a unique opportunity for participants to learn from Stephanie’s eleven years of experience, and boundless creative energy.

Class cost: $300.00 plus $25.00 material fee.

Spring Cleaning Continued - Take Me To The RIVER!

Well, the spring-cleaning bug has certainly bitten all of us in the Warehouse District. The Boardman River (something we see every day), is a fantastic resource and in need of a "face lift" in certain areas. So, with that in mind, the businesses and family of the Warehouse District got together and held a day-long river clean-up with great results! Soon, this beautiful section of the Boardman River will be adorned with a sculpture by Traverse City's own Bob Purvis. So, keep your eyes peeled--pretty soon you'll be able to come to the Warehouse District not only for great shopping and eating, but also to relax by the lovely Boardman!

I am teaching a lampwork class today to a couple and their granddaughter. They are driving 1 1/2 hours to learn to melt glass to make beads! I am sure they will have a great time. 2-Day Workshop with Kim Fields. Sculptural Glass Birds

I finally have a blog to keep you posted on the latest events at Rebecca's Studio LLC and Adornment Gallery. We have lots of great classes coming up like the one that Kim Fields will be offering in May.

Kim will be leading a 2-day class for intermediate glassworkers on Sculptural Glass Birds using a variety of techniques. Demonstrations will include forming simple sculptural birds and moving to more complex forms. Techniques will include color mixing and overlays, encasing, assembling canes, precise dot and stringer placement, and subtle use of heat to control form and pattern.

May 2 and 3, 2009
10am to 6pm
